Neice

Neice is the commonly misspelled word for “niece”. This is an exception of the spelling rule “i before e except after c”. A Neice or niece is your brother or sister’s daughters. You can call your sister or brother in-law nieces even if you are not related by blood. Relatives are a very important part in a person’s life. The importance of kinship among people around the world has changed in the past all throughout history. The extended family members like aunts and uncles are the ones responsible for raising children in the absence of their parents. This kind of role is very apparent in Asian culture. However, this can be noticed too in western countries where extended family relations are practiced when situation arises. But normally, these members can only be seen in a more marginal role. Uncles and aunts are sometimes the forgotten relative especially if they live far apart from each other.

It is therefore not surprising if you find it hard to maintain a successful relationship with your neice. Communication can be a long way process in bridging with your extended family. There are circumstances where as an aunt or uncle you have to offer help to your sister or brother with their children. You will therefore act as mentor to your older neices bringing up situations that need advices and counseling or sometimes by just listening to whatever issues the kids go through since they have their problems at school, love life and other matters. This may be quite difficult to handle considering that the youngsters will always feel that a ‘generation gap’ will always play a big factor to both of you. Building or having a good relationship with your family is very important since you can help each other make it through tough times. Cousins also do the same especially for those families that are very close. Getting to know your relatives like cousins, nieces and nephew would be great since it is important to build and maintain a good relationship with them.

Family is very important to some people. They have gatherings or reunions that are held once a year. Filipinos for example, is very family-oriented. The family members would stick together or even live under one roof. While some of the children’s parents work abroad, the aunts or uncles would have to look after their neice or nephews since they are the only immediate family left in charge of the kids. There are some negative effects when parents leave their children to work in other countries. The immediate family or relatives can only do so much but can not replace real parents. Some of the kids end up doing vices like smoking, drinking and sometimes drugs. The absence of the parents can and will take its toll in the future once the children have grown into teens since this is the time that they tend to get rebellious. Moral fiber is a very important lesson that the kid has to understand and the uncles and aunts have to make sure that they do. It is also important to let the children understand why their parents left. It is very disheartening but, it is also a good thing that there are relatives that you can look up to in the absence of the parents.

Discipline has to be implemented in the home and is to be administered to the children. Children growing up with their grandparents, aunt and uncles would have a feeling of loneliness and being empty since these relatives can not replace the birth parents. Obligations aside, it is quite hard for the relatives to take care of these children who are left by their siblings to work abroad. More and more children grow up without having their parents by their side nowadays.
